Three Common Construction Safety Hazards

learn how to be safe while on the job.

People who work in the construction industry have valuable skills that are in high demand. They are the ones who build commercial buildings and houses by preparing the site, building the structure, and operating a variety of tools, equipment, and vehicles. While construction workers fill a definite need, they work in a dangerous industry with safety hazards that must be taken seriously. Construction safety is vitally important, and all workers must be trained on the latest safety practices.

Construction safety data is recorded every year. According to the United States Department of Labor, the construction industry has the highest fatal injury rate in the country. That is because of the nature of the work that they do and the environment where they work. Here are the three most common construction safety hazards:

Falls

Construction workers often have to deal with heights. A fall from just a few feet off the ground can have serious consequences, so safety at all heights is important. Laborers build and work on top of scaffolding which can be many stories high. They climb ladders, and that can be a dangerous activity for anyone. In addition, they build and repair roofs. This means that they have to work on a steep pitch and be very careful where they step. Gravity is a constant force, so construction workers need to be extremely careful when performing tasks that require them to be high up off the ground.

Moving Things

Another danger that construction workers face comes from things that move. Trucks of all kinds come and go frequently at the job site. Forklifts that transport heavy objects can tip over easily. Some types of excavating equipment have long boom arms with buckets that swing widely and move heavy loads of dirt, stone, and construction materials such as boards and pipe. Any one of those things can be dangerous if dropped in the wrong place or at the wrong time.

Objects and Equipment

Construction sites can be chaotic. There are object lying all over the place as construction workers are in various stages of building. Plus, the ground may be uneven. That’s why there is a danger of tripping and falling over objects and equipment. In addition, there are tools that must be used that can be very dangerous such as drills and saws. This is especially tricky around cables that carry electricity. Construction workers must be very cautious and pay attention at all times so as not to get injured on the job.

Concrete Visions Has Safety Measures in Place

Concrete Visions has over 12 years of experience and expertise in concrete scanning and we know how to detect any problems lurking beneath the surface. We use ground penetrating radar accurately and expertly and are familiar in many other methods that can be used when appropriate like concrete x-ray and electromagnetic conductivity. We are also very familiar with the latest construction safety techniques and train all of our workers to do their work quickly, accurately, and safely.  If you would like to learn more about how we can help you, give us a call at (410) 766-2210 or visit us online.
