What to Wear While Cutting Concrete

Every piece of mandatory safety equipment required for concrete cutting.

Concrete cutting is a dangerous part of working with concrete. This is what makes personal protective equipment, gear, and clothing so important. It can not only prevent injuries but be life saving. Read on to learn more about some of the most important concrete cutting safety equipment in the industry.

Respirators: OSHA Standard 1910.134

Concrete cutting produces airborne particles, such as silica dust, which can be toxic and cause lung damage if breathed in directly. This makes respirators an important part of maintaining the health and safety of workers. There are different types of respirators for different levels of exposure, and all respirators are not inherently the same. Employees who wear them need to be trained according to rigorous and multi-faceted safety programs.

Safety Glasses: OSHA Standard 1926.102

When it comes to concrete cutting, safety glasses are amongst the most rudimentary form of protective equipment. They should be a required safety measure which employees wear at all times. Approved safety glasses are a must during instances where there is a risk of work-related eye injury.

Hard Hat: OSHA Standard 1926.100

Hard hats are a key piece of safety equipment which must meet stringent standards and be properly labeled. The two most important safety features of all hard hats are the shell and the suspension. The shell is what ensures protection from falling objects and serves as a barrier. Suspension absorbs and distributes the force of accidental impacts safely so that its force against the skull is less substantial. Hard hats should be used only when they are in the best condition possible. Visibly damaged hard hats should be discarded.

High-visibility Clothing: OSHA Standard 1926.106

Employees working in or near roadways must wear high-visibility clothing, commonly vests. These help motorists identify workers easily to avoid any potentially devastating accidents.
