Four Advantages Of Ground Penetrating Radar


Ground penetrating radar has advantages that make it a more reliable option.

Anytime you’re working with concrete, having access to ground penetrating radar (GPR) is a good thing. Some will recommend using X-Ray scanners to get a view below the ground’s surface. However, while X-Rays can give people high-quality images in areas such as the medical field, they aren’t as effective as GPR. Ground penetrating radar has advantages that make it a more reliable option.

GPR Is Safer

Safety is of vital importance when you’re working in any area. There are all sorts of health hazards, like heat stroke, extreme cold, and unclean air, to name a few. You want to protect your workers from conditions such as these. When you work with X-Rays, you risk the beams they emit, hurting your workers and potential bystanders.

It’s much safer to use ground penetrating radar. X-Ray scanners can only be operated by certified radiographers, and all sorts of protective gear need to be worn. During scanning, everyone else needs to be at least 100 feet away from the scene. GPR isn’t like that. With GPR, workers can get the job done without interfering with the rest of their day-to-day routines.

It’s Not As Expensive

Even if you’re able to afford the best state-of-the-art gear, as well as fresh new supplies and concrete workers whenever you need them, it’s always smart to save money when you can. Ground penetrating radar isn’t as expensive as X-Ray scanning. Not only do you spend less money with GPR, but you also spend less time. X-Ray scanning can take hours or even days. GPR, on the other hand, can take under an hour to get your results.

More Efficient

Ground penetrating radar is more efficient than people may realize. Workers can deploy GPR scanners as needed, and the scans are done in real time instead of having to wait for images to be processed and developed at the worksite, which could take anywhere from weeks to months to finish. Using GPR is much more efficient, letting workers carry out their tasks while also not risking any potentially dangerous obstacles from harming them or slowing them down.

Produce Better Scans

Whenever you’re doing your scanning, you want nothing less than the best results. X-Ray scanning is only effective if it can scan both sides of a concrete slab. Ground penetrating radar only requires one side. Also, GPR can offer you data about how thick the slab is and how far underground the power, water, and communication lines are.
